Final preparations on my performance 2.3.1a

  • My role in the performance was to act as a detective and a few unknown people.

  • My main responsibility was to make sure that i am able to change my voice as quick as possible when switching from characters to characters. I also needed to make sure i have a good flow with my characters so the whole performance don't seem too fake and un- organize. The other responsibility i had to make sure i keep together was the sound effects, i have to have the right timing and play the right tone.
  • The tasks for the final preparation will be to get the xylophone to use for the tanoy the pilot speaks through.

  • We will be using the xylophone, Our scripts, the mic, the stands and that is the main things we will be using.

to make sure we work safely, we will keep rechecking that everything is in place and that we are fully organized, able to

Front cover

For the second unit Scene, we have been looking at leaflets and researching up on them. We were first given the task to go home and look for any kind of leaflet that advertises events happening. When we attended the next graphics lesson we had to show the different types of leaflets we had and discuss what it is about, how it is designed and why it is designed.

Our main task was to design our own leaflets for creative & media for 16-19 year olds. My idea for a leaflet was to advertise different types of events happening in London's South Bank and where people can go when they are there. I decided to advertise my dance group called 'Fresh Az Ice' which would be my main attraction for my leaflet. The dance will be taking place at the National Theatre. I did approximately 3 different ideas of how it would look, but at the end I finally selected my final idea.
<<---------------------

Even though I had to include 3-4 other events for the leaflet I still thought it would be more creative to focus on an creative activity of my own. At first I thought it was too long to be doing all of this and that it was boring but i thought to myself that I needed to complete everything in order to earn my diploma. I did the following designed events of the Movieum, The London Eye and The Aquarium. The other 2 remaining designs were of a map on how to get there and where the events are and a front cover. These took me quite a long while to complete because of the lack of determination. If I never thought about what I can earn if I completed this then i think I would have probably left this till late. For each one of these designs I made more than one draft and came out with final ideas. Finding out what I could include on a leaflet helped me more thanks to the internet. If I never used it I would have seriously been struggling. The main things I surely needed to include were the price, time, place, date, and use language and fonts that young people will relate to. Those were the key thing i needed to include. I personally think I did very well with my design for my leaflet, I am well happy with it and there is a lot of people I would truly recommend it to.

Paul the journalist

Paul is a journalist that works for the Observer newspaper company. He is a sub-editor in his job, he writes reviews and copy articles. Paul is the type of journalist that also interviews celebrities, especially at the back stages. It as been around 20 years that Paul as been a journalist for. Written work is called copy when in the journalist industry, unlike us modern day people would call it text. Being a sub- editor is a big job because he has to narrow down whatever writing as possible so it is interesting and have a good flow. He went to the London college of printing where he first started studying journalism. Being a journalist is not an easy job, its like non stop work and if your not working the you will not get paid. He also use to work for a music paper called sounds.
The reason for him choosing this kind of job is because he is very interested in the art, and the way journalism is changing rapidly, its hard to get in the industry these days. It is a problem when your missing your deadline rapidly, because you will get fired, so you have to make sure you keep up.

radio play effects

sound effects happen in two different ways.
1. live sounds
2. pre recorded sound
make a list of all the sound effects your play needs. Include what materials/ props are required, plus when and where any recording is to be done.

Narrator: the plane has now landed and everyone is glad to be safe and stopped panacking. The paramedics came running over and carried the pilot out of the plane. You can see the smiles on peoples faces because they have finally landed.

Detective Smith: That was lucky.

Air hostess + Tom: well done we couldnt have done it without you.

Narrator: Now everyone is off the plane, ringing there family happy to be off. Everyone has left, all you can see is the ambulances and hear sirens.

Unit 2 Performance 19/11/09 radio play

Today we all made the decision that the pilot will end up having a heart attack instead of somebody murdering him. It was a fuss at first on deciding what the main thing that happened is going to be. We all had many ideas like 'The co-pilot murdering the main pilot' 'Lightning struck the plane at the front, giving the pilots a real shock' and then our last and final idea was to ' let the pilot have an heart attack, without a co- pilot being there.

A radio play is a form of audio storytelling on the radio. Sound effects help the reader to picture and imagine what is going on in the story. Radio plays now are old fashioned but people still listen to them on the radio or you can have records. A radio play is so different to the music radio. The radio play is much harder, and the reader must focus and make it interesting so people don't get bored very easily.
There are different types of radio plays such as thrillers, comedy, soap operas and mysteries.

Unit 2 performance-Radio play idea

It starts off when everyone is on the plane going to America but then half way through, the lights start to off and everything strange happens. Everyone starts to get worried and wonders what is going on but no one knows what to do. People start to realise the plane is getting lower but when the air hostess goes to see the captain to see what is happening she See's that the pilot is dead so someone must of done it on the plane but would still be on the plane, so they try to find out who it is. In the end someone on the plane tries to fly the plane and they survive. In the background there are noises of people talking fast and sounding worried. At the start before all of that happens the air hostess are going to be talking and then when the end happens you can see the change in them. Even though everyone survived they didn't find the person who killed the pilot and at the end. There will be kids screaming but its a film that they will be watching and there will be noises of people talking about america.
The characters will be the air hostess, kids, one main person and background noises.

My character will be a young detective who was trying to go on holiday but it had to be postpone because of the whole incidence on the plane. I will be one of the first people the staff members of the plane reportS to about the whole problem, considering he is the law. My reaction to the whole incidence will be very shocking, to think there is a killer on the plane and im a detective, so their all going to depend on me to find out who it is and how were going to land the plane.

UNIT 2- RADIO PLAY PERFORMANCE PLANNING 10/11/09

UNIT 2- RADIO PLAY PERFORMANCE PLANNING 10/11/09

Group members:
Dennis
James
Helen

It all started when me, Helen and james are on a plane going to america. Were all settled in on the plane then all of a sudden the lights started to dim and the plane felt like it was slightly landing. We all thought there was just a simple technical fault with the plane that could be fixed but when i went to one of the women and asked what's wrong she told me that the pilot had collapsed and nobody is flying the plane. Im a cop who is on vacation with Helen and James, so considering that i'm a police officer, i was the first person the planes service women reported to. Helen started to panic so she quickly ran all the way from first class to the lower classes, screaming out to ever one of the drama taking place. This is going to make the other people on the plane panic and going to put me under pressure as well.

GRAPHICS EVALUATION

EVALUATION FOR GRAPHICS

This all started in the first lesson of Graphics with my teacher. The first ting we started doing was finding information on what an artefact is and by also finding definitions of different types of artefacts. Homework was given out by our teacher to gather ideas of artefacts such as ‘machine made’ artefacts and hand-made artefacts. A radio was an example of a machine made artefact and a clay pot was an example of a hand-made artefact.

After a couple weeks learning about artefacts, we then moved on to looking at different Cd covers through out of the remaining lessons for the term. I had to look up on different ways people designed Cd covers and the type of software they used. For homework i went home and find different Cd cover examples and wrote about it. I thought things were getting too difficult at that period of time because what i needed to do was find images of Cd covers then cut them out and stick it in my book, but the problem was i do not have any kind of glue in my yard except for crazy glue.

For only two different lessons we started researching on different packaging such as a Skittles packet and a Doritos packet. Doing homework on this category and finding different packages helped me learn more about why these different packages are made and how. Now when certain packages is bought, i end up looking at the back of them for more information about it.

The teacher told me i had to design a Cd cover of my own before the term finish so i had to do ruff drafts of the design i will produce. My main theme for my Cd cover was Bob Marley, everything about my ruff drawings was to do with green, red, yellow and black colors. What i was thinking was that it was too much of the same colors for all of my drafts but then again the layout and drawing ideas were different. I produced some great idea but there were like two other i was not happy with. This was the main part in graphics that i enjoyed most.

Now it was at the stage where i was given top f the line , new drawing pads, to draw out my final idea for my Cd front, back and spine. I thought it would have been difficult using the drawing pads and before starting i was not feeling confident, because i did not think the idea i did on paper would come out as good on the imac computer.

I started off doing the back of my Cd cover first, by playing around with photoshop to get use to all the different tools and effects on it. I used the brush tool to draw out a picture of Bob Marley, but only a quarter of his Body. Using the drawing pad to draw him actually came out successful, i started gaining full control over it and in time it was all easy to use. The main background color for the back was green but it was a red color first before i changed it. After two lessons i ended up completing it fully with me happy with it. The lesson after i started the front and it took me only 2 hours of the graphics lesson to finish it, i actually thought it was easy and i was fully happy with it. The last lesson of graphics before the half term was when i started my spine Which i completed in around 15 minuites, considering the width was 0.7 centimeter and the length was only 12 centimeter.

After this completion i looked back on my work and realized i done a good job. It was a work i was fully satisfied with and a work i would really want to do again.

How i edited my images 23/10/09

This is the picture i took with the 10 megapixel camera, a week before the deadline. as you can see the quality of the picture is very strong so when i edit it you will still se it standing out.

This is the image edited on photoshop. I only highlighted around the picture using the famous ‘brush tool’ but the fuzzball brush tool type. I highlighted it all the way around in a dull yellow color and then with the black over-lapping the yellow.

This is the picture of the guitar i took from the studio. You can see the background is dark, which would tell you that i will edit something dark about it.

This is the picture of the guitar that i edited on adobe photoshop. One of the The main editing i did on this picture was cropping out the original background using the ‘quick selection tool’. After cropping out the image i then use the brush tool again but the ‘hard round’ type and highlighted it in black. The red and yellow stars around it is the brush tool but the ‘star flowing’ type.

My picture of two very big trees around the back of the school. For this picture i had to zoom in quite far and it is this picture that is being used as my main background.

This is my background picture edited on adobe photoshop. I never did much morphing but i did a lot of adjusting to it. I used the hue/saturates coloring tool to change up the background to the colors i said i wanted it to be. Parts of the trees are red and parts of the trees are green, you can also see little specs of yellow if you look carefully.

This is a picture of James, Reece and Tanjiana. I made them do the these types of posing because i want it to look like they are dancing there lives away in a club.

I edited the picture of the three friends in photoshop. I resized the picture then crop out the original background picture. This picture was actually placed at the top left of my design.

This is a picture of the keyboard mixer i wanted in my design. I went to the studio and took three different pictures but it was this one that was taken the best.

I edited this picture on photoshop using the resize tool to make it smaller and straight after i cropped out everything else in the original picture and left the mixer. This picture was place right in the middle, under the image of me.

This is the edited picture of my drum- set. You are able to see that i cropped most of it out with it looking in a shambles. I also brightened the white part of the drum using the photo filter effect. Even though it looks in pieces, i can guarantee that it fits together with the other images i took.

Evaluation of Unit 4-Creating a Record.

1. The actual atmosphere of Batman is dark, shadowy, mysterious, scary and highly tense.
Batman is a night time superhero who is unlikely to make an appearance in broad daylight. Batman is the type of hero that dislikes talking a lot or showing off. He is highly smart and always prefers to work alone on almost every occasion. Even though Batman does not have any super powers like super strength or super speed, his intelligents and close combat is a powerful force for the villains in the city of Gotham.

2. The musical ideas i have chosen to begin this work with was;
The shimmering- effect to give the the opening musical idea a dark and fierce feeling.
Underwater bass- to bring more drama to the musical idea.
Pop piano- this brings in the melody to the whole musical and also makes my musical atmosphere more sinister.
Dark pluming- this idea brought a the dark bit of the atmosphere and made the musical build up with suspense.
Pop strings smooth- this was the leading sound in the musical, it is the sound you will hear in the background all the way through.
I did actually rejected some things like the Blasting lasers. this was because i thought it would be a good idea at first but after watching the Batman opening over and over again i decided it was Un- necessary, i was not able to see anything to do with lasers throughout the opening.

3. I had to make some tough choices when doing this, because i kept changing the different number of tracks to the batman piece mainly to the fact i could not make my mind up on all the different types of sounds i wanted in it. I used 9 tracks separate with 4 consisting of the drop in the music piece, 3 for the starting and two for the ending of it.
I did end up taking out the bass piano track which was when my track numbers went to 9. My teacher MSM came straight away to my help the moment i asked for it. He helped me put the beats in the separate tracks more together, so the whole music piece can sound like a official recording.

4. The way i created my batman theme is by doing one note after the other at certain points, it used mainly 5 notes to get the riddim to it. It started going up first then in the middle it started going down then right back up.

5. At the end of the gotham city scene, there was a random sound playing and just 2 second after it finish that sound slowly faded out. The sound at the end was kin of the same has the sound in the beginning but more calmer.

6. To make my work more representative i would need to change up my ending, to a way that would get the examiner thinking, i would make it sound more like there is a mystery. I would also develop the way the whole flow of the music is, there is some out of tune parts in it.

Unit 4 record- The Batman 21/10/2009 Information

The film stars Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker who is the greatest enemy of the batman. The film started filming firstly in October 1988 at a place called Pinewood Studios.

Bruce Wayne (Batman/Keaton) at a young age saw his parents murdered right in front of him. While growing up he vowed to avenge his parents death by taking the role as the night time vigilante Batman, who is always watching out for the people in the city of Gotham. His main enemy The Joker, is the so called joker in Gotham but he ain't the type of clown that just laughs and pull practical jokes. The Joker is making people laugh to death in the city of Gotham and it is up to The Batman to stop him before Joker accomplish his mission.

There are two types of best boys. Best boy grip and best boy electric they are responsible for running the lighting and grip department.

A gaffer is the head of the lighting department, responsible for the designs and the executions taking place, or to be taking place.

Tuesday 20 October 2009

this is my final idea for the front of my CD cover. you would recognize that i use a lot of red, green, yellow and black colors for both my front and back cover of my Cd. the reason for choosing these colors is because, it is eye-catching, bright and it also gives you the idea straight away that it is something to do with Bob Marley or Jamaica

Monday 19 October 2009

Unit 4 record- music work today on the 19/10/09

In the music lesson today with Mr. Smith i continued and was able to almost fully complete my melodic piece for my Batman work. It was difficult at first because i started getting confused on how a melody should sound but at the end i managed to pull something off.

Friday 16 October 2009

my graphic design

This is my final idea for the back of my Cd cover which is fully completed. What i really like about it is the drawing i did of Bob Marley, because i did this drawing using a drawing pad and i think i was able to bring it to a good standard for the finish. I have never used a drawing pad before so considering it was my first time i am well satisfied with it. What i think i should just about change is the color of the title at the back 'Love Is True Life' i think i should make it more effective by changing it red, as we know red symbolizes love. There is only one thing i am not happy with about the picture and that is the fact that the music titles are a bit too close to the edge of the cover. If i was able to edit the text before i merged it with everything else, then i would have been able to space it out away from the edge. My overall conclusion of the back cover is that it is really well finished to my satisfaction.

Unit 4 record- Music work today

This morning in the music lesson i finished recording my batman beginning and moved on to my NCFE Sequence. i firstly made a copy of my batman audio clip and started creating a new melody, using the actual keyboards to play is a lot more easier than using the computer keyboard itself. i managed to produce a good piece of melody so far that is going to contribute to my work

My Designed CD Cover

Green and brown colored hair- The reason for making Bob Marleys hair green is because i want it to represent the country he is from which is jamaica and i made it brown as well to show that he has dreadlocks.

(Love Is True Life)- The reason For that title at the back of the Cd cover is because as people may know Bob Marley represents love and is always talking about life. You can also see that the 'love is' part is colored in red, considering a red heart means love as well.

My picture is also filtered to give a real effect that it is an official Cd cover. At the sides of the face you can see the two different color brown to show that there is a light shining on him, one side is darker than the other.

mandy's graphics lesson 12/10/09

in Mandy's graphics lesson we were given new drawing pads to redraw our work we did in class. The new drawing pads are electronic, so whatever we draw will come up on a programme called photoshop. I actually and suprisely managed to produce a good standard peice of art work so far considering i have never used a drawing pad before. To me the drawing pad is hard to use but i think it is a more better way to show how good and how you can manage the way you draw. There is still work left to be done including my Cd cover spine and the front, so next lesson i will be able to complete it.

Monday 12 October 2009

Unit 4 record- music today

today in my music lesson i worked on my melody piece. i managed to create only 10 seconds of it because of the lack of me knowing what a light motif is. All i need to do now and i will be completely finish is to work more on my melody and make it be up to a certain standard

Friday 9 October 2009

Lesson with Brian 09/10/09

In todays lesson with brian i was slowly learning to use photoshop better to create my digital picture idea. It was a bit difficult at the start but closely to the end i managed to overcome this difficulty and made t my strong point on photoshop. today i mostly found my background and edited it with the tools on photoshop. it did start to get annoying because i could not think of the effect it could be, but next lesson i should at least be able to finish my background and all the other details added around it.

Thursday 8 October 2009

Unit 4 record- my music work on the 29/09/09

down below is the work i did in music. in this work i had to find out about how music is made and find a few of the few points in music

A scale is a unified collection of notes-which any addition is heard to be extraneous and a selection which is in some sense complete.

the scale must also fulfil the functions demanded of it. There are three principal functions that a scale may be asked to fufil:

  1. to serve as a harmonic resource
  2. to be tonally effective
  3. to serve as a melodic resource

Major scale-
The major scale has triads which can be represented numerically as: one, ii, iii IV, vi and Vii which are chords or as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 which are notes.

Between the 7th and 8th degrees and also the 3rd and 4th degrees there are semitones, between all the other adjacent notes there are whole tones. The major scale is strongly effective at producing a tonic function on the major chord that is built on its home note.

Minor scale- the minor scale is well used for classical music, this where it is well know. for minor mode music it is known to be the harmonic foundation. with a minor scale the sixth degree is raised to the seventh by a chromatic semitone. these devices are he ones that transforms the augmented second into a major second.

Aeolian mode- in a aeolian mode there are semitones between the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th degrees, and leaving whole Tones between all the other degrees. Its cadences are less decisive than the harmonic minor scales so it is generally avoided in the classical music.
